Timbaland has always wanted to work with The Notorious B.I.G., and now his wish has somewhat come true. Thanks to controversial artificial intelligence programs, the producer has cooked up a track with the AI version of Biggie.
“We know that there’s a lot of talk about AI, and we know the feeling of violating certain things, but let me tell you something,” he says in a clip shared to his Instagram. “I got a solution, we’re working on it. It’s gon’ be beneficial to everybody, but in the meantime, I gotta share something I’ve been working on because I always wanted to do this, and I never got a chance to.”
“I always wanted to work with Big, and I never got a chance to — until today,” Tim continued. “It came out right.” The producer then played a snippet of the track, which featured AI Biggie rapping and even mentioning Pop Smoke and Nipsey, who started their careers and passed in the wake of Big’s death.
Tim’s post comes after Universal Music Group asked major DSPs to block AI companies from using its music. Drake, Snoop Dogg and Jay-Z‘s engineer Young Guru, who was tagged in Tim’s post, have all in some way expressed their concerns about artificial intelligence.
“People should not be able to take your Name, Image and Likeness without permission,” Young Guru previously wrote on Instagram.“The only way I see to deal with it is to change the law. There are so many different opinions. We could change the United States law tomorrow but the internet is world wide. What a time we live in!!”
